OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON RULES

 

The 2009 OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON will be conducted under the following rules and regulations:

 

  1. Only students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 or equivalent home school ranking are eligible to compete in the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON.
  2. Any school properly registered can send ONLY ONE DESIGNATED TEAM.
  3. Each team must consist of five students.
    1. All teams must be affiliated with their local conservation district.
    2. Team sponsors and the principal of participating schools must read and sign the REGISTRATION FORM. The team advisor shall certify that all team members competing at the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON meet all eligibility requirements set forth by the rules and regulations of the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON, and the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
  4. Meals and housing will be provided for a five-member team and up to two adult advisors.
  5. In the event of an injury or illness of a team member during the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON, the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON Steering Committee will assess the situation.
  6. A team advisor MUST accompany each team. Team members and advisors are required to stay on site during the entire competition. Team members and their respective advisors WILL NOT be housed together.   Team members will be accompanied by OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON Walking Leaders, during the competition.
  7. All tobacco, drugs, alcohol and weapons of any kind are prohibited during the entire stay. Rules for the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON competition site will be strictly observed. The display of proper conduct at all times is expected. Failure to follow this rule will result in immediate dismissal of the team from the competition.
  8. Personal electronic devices such as MP3 players, PDAs, and CD players are prohibited during the entire stay.  A designated time will be scheduled for students to use cellular phones.  When not in use, all cellular phones must be stored in a advisor's vehicle or with an OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON official.
  9. All team members will be required to wear appropriate attire during testing.  This includes long pants and sturdy shoes (no shorts or open-toed shoes).
  10. There will be four resource stations: Soils/Land Use, Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife.  Special topic questions will be incorporated at all four field test stations.
  11.  Advisors will rotate through the stations as a group during the testing period.
  12. The oral presentations will be judged by professionals from various state, federal, and private resource management groups.
    1. The oral presentation will be ten minutes maximum in length followed by five minutes of questions to team members by the judges.
    2. All five team members MUST participate orally in the presentation.
    3. During oral presentations, all team members must wear an OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON t-shirt that will be provided at the state competition.
    4. Visual aids must be prepared on-site by team members using only materials provided by OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON.

13.  All judge and proctor decisions will be adhered to during all events pending a final decision by the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON Steering Committee if necessary.

14.  All team members and advisors must attend all scheduled functions.

15.  Any infraction of the Policies or Rules and Regulations of the OKLAHOMA ENVIROTHON will result in disqualification and dismissal from the event and competition location.

16.  No personal resource or study materials are allowed at the competition.  All necessary materials will be provided.

17.  All decisions made by the Envirothon Committee are final.
